What we do – how we react to adversity tells us a lot about who we are and what we value. A few days ago an apparent electrical fire forced the temporary closure of the Beach House Restaurant in Bristow. The fire itself wasn’t devastating, but its repercussions might have been for a number of its employees. What would the loss of a paycheck for weeks do to you? For many or most, it could be hugely scary.

Thankfully, for the employees of the Beach House, those fears are gone. The Beach family are protecting their team and keeping everyone on the payroll through these challenging weeks – and they are to be commended – and I hope well supported for their commitment to their people and doing what’s right – despite the additional financial strain.

Ordering lunch on the Beach House “veranda”.

I stopped by Saturday morning and visited a bit with Cody Beach (and ordered some roasts). They were out back on the deck cooking up burgers. Directly behind the kitchen, in the parking lot, they had tables and tents set up to take lunch orders – with proceeds going to their employees’ support effort. I didn’t realize until later that they also had the space next next door on Main Street set up with  tables. It was busy! I ran into Jennifer Murray out back, who had stopped by to support the effort and refuel between the morning Be Love Yoga class / demo and afternoon grand opening activities. I gather she picked up some fresh Beach produce as well – also part of the fundraising effort. She was not alone.

Cody said the insurance companies (one for the building owner and one for the tenant) haven’t yet signed off on everything, which does, unfortunately, slow down the process of the restoration. Hopefully that will work itself out in the coming days and work can begin. He did relate that Assurance Restoration can likely complete the necessary work in about three weeks, once they have the go-ahead.

We sure wish the Beach’s and their employees and families all the best in the coming weeks and look forward to our next lunch served with a smile  at The Beach House Restaurant. Well done Beach’s! You make Bristow proud!
