IBristow Depot at Christmas

A renaissance, a new energy, has been benefitting Bristow in recent years. And it is palpable, serious and sustainable.

Two major catalysts are at the heart of this new excitement over the path and future of Bristow. First was the enormous shot in the arm brought about by the winning of the selection process to bring the Polar Express to Bristow, Oklahoma. Blessed with the wonderfully restored Bristow Train Depot and classic small city downtown, plus an engaged and “open arms” welcome and can-do attitude from city leaders and the Chamber, Bristow emerged victorious! The announcement that Bristow was to be the new home of the Polar Express further energized community clean up and improvements throughout the city. And the 20,000 plus NEW visitors each Christmas season has been most welcome. That Christmas Holiday experience has since morphed into the Bristow Chamber’s “Christmas Unwrapped” celebration.

The second key factor was a new grassroots energy emanating from many new Bristow residents, as well as countless long-time residents and business leaders who have embraced a brighter vision for Bristow’s future. These folks plugged in to the Chamber; organized and volunteered improvements and initiatives throughout the area, and through the process also organized a number of focused groups to take on various challenges and opportunities to better Bristow. The results to date include a much more attractive downtown / Main Street appearance, new and expanded events / special gatherings, a more responsive and engaged Chamber of Commerce, and additional investments in both existing and new businesses. Bristow is on a roll!

Just think about the city pool project, skate park, town square, Patriotism in the Park Independence Day celebration – and so much more. We are indeed on the move.

Where does Bristow Buzz fit in?

We have created Bristow Buzz to serve as the “town square” for the citizens and businesses in Bristow. Our goal is to reflect, as well as illuminate, all the positives our community has to offer. We will endeavor to:

  • Showcase our businesses and civic groups
  • Highlight and celebrate local residents’ or business folks accomplishments and honors
  • Be a forum for discussion of Bristow initiatives / future direction
  • Serve as a reliable and comprehensive reference / information destination site
  • Promote “be vocal, support local”. A city’s lifeblood revenue source is sales taxes. We want to inform residents and visitors alike about local business options to keep our dollars in town – while supporting our neighbors’ businesses (and families).
  • Spotlight local events, fundraisers, and other special activities. What’s happening at the schools? The Freeland Center? Chamber activities? The VFW, Rotary Club, 4H/FFA, our churches? We’ll help keep you informed.

In short,  we want to inform, reflect and celebrate Bristow. We hope you will join in the conversation!

And PLEASE, let us know what you think. What would you like to see?
