Grover Junior Prewitt was born July 20, 1952 to Grover C. and Ida J. Prewitt in Stroud, Oklahoma. He departed this life January 25, 2017 at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 5 days. He was a graduate of Bristow High School. He then served his country in the United States Air Force. He had previously owned and operated Grover’s BBQ Restaurant.

We at Mid America need to inform all of our customers and dear friends the passing of Jerry Varner. He was the foundation of our family and the heart and soul of the sale barn! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Services will be Sunday January 29th at 2 pm at the Bristow Freeland Center.

‘Doctor Bill’ Showcased

A veterinarian is more than just a singular title. Veterinarians are dentists, urologist, dietitians, surgeons, psychiatrists, and so much more for the ones that can’t even tell us what is wrong. Those that do this line of work are great blessings in small communities. After learning the story, and visiting the Bristow Veterinarian Clinic I have adopted a newfound respect for what goes on behind the scenes at a local vet clinic. William H. Mitchell or “Doctor Bill” as his clients know him as had no problem recalling his reason to pursue this career choice.

Obituary for Eddie Mayberry of Depew, Oklahoma

Eddie Paul Mayberry was born December 5, 1950 to William Ralph and Dorothy Ellen Mayberry in Madera, California. He departed this life January 19, 2017 at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 14 days. Eddie was a 1969 Depew High School graduate. He worked at Leland in Tulsa as a welder for many years but then became a stay at home dad where he raised his two daughters, Shelby and Shawna. As well, he was also an oil pumper and farmer; and enjoyed taking care of his cattle.

Laura Alice Brown was born March 1, 1933 to Robert Jason and Alice May Parrick in Seminole, Oklahoma. She departed this life, January 16, 2017 at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 15 days. She attended schools at both Depew and Gypsy. She had worked as a Pharmacy Tech and also owned and operated her own restaurant. She was also the first female Mayor of Depew and also served on the city council for a number of years. She was a member of the Depew First Baptist Church.

Reta Evelyn Lane was born July 28, 1935 in Kellyville, Oklahoma to Delbert and Nadine (Gilreath) Mayberry. She departed this life January 15, 2017 at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 18 days. Reta lived in the Bristow area most all her life. On February 19, 1954, Reta Mayberry and Billy Dean Lane were united in marriage in Pasco, Washington. To this union were born two daughters, Karla and Pam.

Root’s Hometown Furniture Saying Its Goodbyes to Bristow

By now, most of the town knows that the iconic Main Street store, Root's Hometown Furniture, will be closing its doors in the coming days. When Rick Root shared his news with me, I was truly saddened. Root's is one of those wonderful Bristow family businesses we kind of assume, and hope, will always be there.

Obituary for Wilbert Harrison Goodmon of Kellyville, Oklahoma

Wilbert Harrison Goodmon was born on November 4th, 1923 to M.L. & Agnes Goodmon in Newby, Oklahoma. He went to be with the Lord on January 6th, 2017 at the age of 93 years, 2 months & 2 days. Wilbert graduated from Bristow High School then joined the Navy during World War II. He and Norma Jean Watts were married May 15th, 1945. They were blessed with Joyce & Wilberta Jean. He and Norma Jean were saved in January of 1952 and Wilbert felt the call to preach, preaching his first sermon on Easter Sunday 1952.
