Gary Lee Lawrence of Bristow

September 11, 1947 – September 12, 2017

Gary Lee Lawrence was born September 11, 1947 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Betty and Floyd Gates.  He departed this life September 12, 2017 at the age of 70 years and one day.

He was a graduate of Bristow High School.  He then attended Oklahoma State University where he received two associates’ degrees.  He enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War.

On February 7, 1976 Gary Lawrence and Donna Wimmer were united in marriage.  He worked for many years at Oklahoma Fixture Company and then in heating and air industry.  He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Gary enjoyed volunteering at the Bristow nutrition center.  He also enjoyed volunteering his time and efforts whenever.  He favored being outdoors and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna Lawrence of the home; three children, Don Sweger and wife Deidre of Guthrie, Ronny Sweger and wife Claudia of Bixby & Trisha Lawrence of Sapulpa; mother, Betty Gaasch of Bristow; one brother, Larry Lawrence of Jennings; one sister, Wileeta Dobson of Broken Arrow; Five grandchildren, Shawnda Jones, Justice Sweger, Briggs Sweger, Brooks Sweger and Brett Sweger.  He is preceded in death by his father and one sister, Debbie Hinson.

Graveside services are scheduled on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2:00PM at Magnolia Memorial Gardens with the memorial service to follow at 3:00PM at the Bristow Veterans of Foreign Wars Lodge.  Officiating will be Chaplain Charles Battenfield.
